Project Description

Need volunteer hours? Do you like working with computers? Are you interested in how new programs are tested and developed? Do you want to learn more about what it takes to plan a city complete with parks, businesses, houses, and places to shop? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we would like to invite you to join us as we pilot the latest version of Land Science; a virtual land planning internship and educational tool that is based on our very own town of Lowell, Massachusetts! This is a great opportunity for students in grades 8-12 interested in computers, conservation and land planning to practice the skills of professionals in the field. You will join a regional planning firm as a virtual intern and gather information from stakeholder groups as YOU design a land use plan for a community in Lowell! Since this is the newest version of Land Science and we have added some new features to the game, we will also be asking you for feedback on game design as we play. So, not only are you playing the game, your feedback will help in the development of the game for future versions! We would like to run the next version of Land Science here at Mass Audubonís Drumlin Farm in Lincoln, MA during both February Vacation Week (Feb 19th-22nd ) and April Vacation Week (April 16th-19th). The commitment would be either 9-12:00 or 1:00-4:00pm each day. If you would like to sign up or need further information please contact Robin Stuart at 781-259-2217 or (address redacted) Please respond with which vacation week and time slot you would like to join us for. RSVP for February vacation week by February 1st and April vacation week by April 1st .
