Project Description

PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION ENTIRELY. The application deadline has already past, but please sign up for this project if you are planning on participating. The LHS Special Olympics will be held on Wednesday, May 9 at the Lexington Track (rain date: May 10). All volunteers must attend a meeting at 7:00 PM on May 8th to go over important details for the event and receive t-shirts. Volunteers must be able to stay from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM on the day of the Olympics. You will receive 8 hours for this project. Volunteers are needed as buddies for athletes, timers, and in Olympic Town. There are more volunteers than athletes, so not everyone will have a buddy. If you are paired with a LABBB student, you must stay with them AT ALL TIMES, bring them to events and awards, and never leave them to hang out with your friends. Families of LABBB parents will be present at the event, so all volunteers must act responsibly. If you volunteer in Olympic Town, you will be responsible for running the crafts (sand art, face painting, etc.) but you will still have many opportunities to interact with the athletes. Olympic Town volunteers must remain in Olympic Town and help with set-up and clean-up. Every volunteer has a crucial role in the event and will always have something to do! NHS members have found this day to be hugely rewarding in past years. If you have not already, please email Stephanie Hom at (address redacted) to let Best Buddies know that you plan on volunteering. Let us know if you have any questions!

There are 56 NHS members participating in this project.
