Literacy night is an event for the kids and families. The event is split up into two days. Volunteers would help set up the event, and then help manage the centers. Centers including playful literacy, artful literacy, mindful movement literacy, writing lounge, reading lounge, readers theatre. Some more info is listed below but would be happy to answer any questions to give more details. Ideally there will be 10-12 volunteers for each event (could be the same kids). They will need to be there an hour before so I can go over stations and give them each a job. Thank you and please let me know if you have any further questions.

Playful Literacy

Visit a variety of tables and enjoy a hands-on approach to literacy while exploring with letters, words, puppets, props, and poetry!

Artful Literacy

Learn from illustrators by using your “artist’s eyes” to look into the artwork of three selected picture books. Find inspiration for creating an art piece of your own!

Mindful Movement Literacy

Join with friends at the yoga mats to experience a “physical” approach to literacy. See if you can stretch your body in ways to match the characters or actions in books.

Literacy Logging

Take time to free-write using paper, pencils, markers, and staplers to compose a story of your own. Or, choose from a variety of scrapbooking paper, string, and beads to create a journal to take home!

Literacy Lounge

Find a cozy space to make yourself at home with your parent and a book to share! Feel free to look into our book baskets for something that interests you or enjoy a book of your own.
